Treatment Thresholds for Stink Bugs , 2003
نویسنده
چکیده
Predominant phytophagous (plant-feeding) stink bugs in the southeast and much of the mid-South are similar and include the green stink bug, Acrosternum hilare (Say), the southern green stink-bug, Nezara viridula (L.), and the brown stink bug, Euschistus servus (Say). Several other species are part of the plantfeeding stink bug complex but are of less importance. Stink bugs will become more important and challenge current and future efforts concerning cotton insect management. Investigations into alternative monitoring strategies and management tactics for the pest complex are ongoing projects. In 2003, investigations were continued into development of boll-injury-based thresholds for stink bugs.

PLANTÐINSECT INTERACTIONS Influence of Soybean Planting Date and Maturity Group on Stink Bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) Populations
Field experiments were conducted in Stoneville, MS, to determine the impact of soybean planting date and maturity group on stink bug (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) populations. Maturity group IV and V soybeans were planted on three planting dates in 2003 and 2004. Planting dateswere lateMarchÐearlyApril, lateAprilÐearlyMay, and lateMayÐearly June. Plotswere sampled weekly with a standard 38.1-cm-d...
متن کاملTrap Cropping Systems and a Physical Barrier for Suppression of Stink Bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Cotton.
Euschistus servus (Say), Nezara viridula (L.), and Chinavia hilaris (Say) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) are economic pests of cotton in the coastal plain of the southeastern United States. The objective of this 2-yr study was to determine the ability of trap cropping systems, pheromone-baited stink bug traps, and a synthetic physical barrier at the peanut-to-cotton interface to manage stink bugs in...
متن کاملSpatial Distribution of Stink Bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Wheat
A two-year study was conducted in South Carolina wheat (Triticum aestivum L. (Poales: Poaceae)) fields to describe spatial and temporal dynamics of stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), which were sampled weekly with sweep nets. In 2010, the main phytophagous stink bugs caught in a grid sampling plan across two fields were the brown stink bug, Euschistus servus (Say), the rice stink bug, Oebalu...
متن کاملThe chemical volatiles (semiochemicals) produced by neotropical stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae).
In recent years the growing concern about environmental changes and how we are using the natural resources have triggered a search for natural products as alternatives to synthetic pesticides. The stink bugs produce a wide variety of chemical compounds (semiochemicals) that show potential to manage these insects. The stink bugs Chinavia impicticornis (Stål), C. ubica (Rolston), Dichelops melaca...
متن کاملSimulating Insect Injury with Emphasis on Stink Bugs
Because true bugs continue to pose a challenge to current and future efforts concerning cotton insect management, we must continue to investigate the potential for yield loss under various circumstances. Excessive terminal and fruit losses from insects, specifically the bug complex (stink bugs or plant bugs), in earlysquaring cotton can result in significant loss of canopy structure and yield. ...
